What is a naked cake?
Nude cakes are naked cakes that have no to the minimal frosting. This exposes the layers and filling. This rustic-chic presentation of cakes has been popular at weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, and other events. Christina Tosi, the Milk Bar founder, is responsible for the rise in popularity of this cake presentation. She started highlighting the cake layers instead of just the frosting in 2013. Naked cakes are now a popular bakery item!
Naked cakes are a stunning addition to any occasion, whether Easter, Mother’s Day, a small wedding, shower, birthday, or another event. The best thing about this style is the creative control. This recipe is 100x more fun because you can decorate the naked cake your way. You can also make a tiered cake with my homemade wedding cake.
There are two types of naked cakes
There are two types of naked cakes. Today’s cake is a seminaked or “half-dressed” cake. The sides are bare of frosting. Seminaked cakes are crumb-coated cakes. You can also simplify the design by using an actual naked cake. This means that the sides of your cake are bare, much like my fresh strawberry cream cake. Both styles are easy to use, beautiful, and approachable.

Let’s concentrate on a seminaked cupcake because that’s what I did to decorate the cake in today’s video and photos.
Prepare the cake. You can use any of my layer cakes, the vanilla cake recipe below, or any other layer cake recipe you like. Although the vanilla cake recipe is very similar to mine, it has more structure that can be used for naked cake decorating. Three to four layers of cake recipes are sufficient for decorating, although you can also decorate a two-layer cake. You can also make a tiered cake, like my homemade bridal cake.
